Satellite Communication Systems Operator/Maintainer (25S)

With communications being such an integral and critical part of the Army, the Satellite Communication Systems Operator/Maintainers are responsible for making sure that long distance satellite communications lines are always up and running. The satellite communication systems Operator/ Maintainer supervises, installs, operates, maintains and repairs strategic and tactical multichannel satellite communications equipment and associated ground/earth terminals systems. Additionally, they employ security communications devices, and perform preventive maintenance checks and services on assigned communications equipment, vehicles, and power generators. The MOS 25S includes the additional skill identified (ASI) 1C, this training is approximately 18 weeks long and a general overview is provided below.

Here are some of the duties of a MOS 25S Satellite Communication Systems Operator/Maintainer:

TRAINING

Job training for a Satellite Communication Systems Operator/Maintainer consists of approximately 27 weeks of training. The 25S MOS is divided into two separate tracks; 25S (7D) Tactical track (Mobile equipment) and MOS 25S (7E) Strategic (Fixed site). MOS 25S 7D satellite operators, maintain and operate rapidly deployable mobile tactical satellite communications.  Fixed site (7E) Soldiers, primarily operate, Strategic Earth Terminals non-deployable communications sites.  Part of the 25S training time is spent in the classroom environment and part in the field environment under simulated combat conditions.

Additional Training Available

A selected few Satellite Communications Systems Operator/Maintainer Soldiers may be eligible to attend the 18 week Satellite Systems/Network Coordinator Course.  This highly demanding and technically challenging course teaches graduates the extended skill sets necessary to monitor and control joint military communications on a global scale.
