CSM Cecil B. Miles
June 1985 - June 1990
CSM Cecil Miles served the Army from 1956 to 1990. His 34-year career included a broad range of assignments in communications, aerial combat surveillance operations and maintenance. He was wire team chief and division radio chief in 82d Signal Battalion; radar-repair adviser and radio operations chief for the U.S. Military Training Mission to Saudi Arabia; senior instructor for aerial radar and infrared surveillance systems at the Army’s Combat Surveillance School; brigade communications chief and first sergeant for 18th Military Police Brigade in Vietnam; and first sergeant and chief instructor for infantry tactical communications at the U.S. Army Infantry School. He also served as operations sergeant major and command sergeant major of Joint Communications Support Element, MacDill AFB, Fla.; 2d Signal Brigade in Germany; U.S. Army Communications Command-Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.; 7th Signal Command at Fort Ritchie, Md.; and U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon, Ga.
CSM Miles was appointed the first Regimental sergeant major of the Signal Regiment in June 1986, and was the first enlisted Distinguished Member of the Regiment.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal with oak-leaf cluster and the Signal Corps Regimental Association’s Silver Order of Mercury award. CSM Miles was inducted as a Distinguished Member in 1990, along with appointment as Honorary Sergeant Major of the Signal Regiment.
