(Ret.) Eddie D. Wheelock (1990)
COL (Ret.) Eddie Wheelock retired from the Army in
1990 after more than 27 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was director,
Office Chief of Signal, and Regimental Adjutant. Prior to that assignment, he served as
Training and Doctrine Commands systems manager for multiservice communications
systems, directing development, acquisition and deployment of a new family of digital
communications assemblages to field locations.
COL Wheelocks earlier assignments included deputy
brigade commander, 7th Signal Brigade; communications-electronics staff officer to the
commander of U.S. Army Readiness and Mobilization Region VII; deputy branch chief and Army
general staff personnel officer in the Enlisted Personnel Division, Army National Guard;
battalion executive officer, 124th Signal Battalion; communications-electronics officer
for 43d Support Group; and project officer for U.S. Army Combat Development Command,
Communications Electronics Agency. He served in the Dominican Republic, as well as two
tours in Vietnam as a systems control officer with the Defense Communications Agency and
inspector general for 1st Signal Brigade.
COL Wheelocks awards and decorations include the
Legion of Merit, Bronze Star medal with oak-leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with
four oak-leaf clusters and the Signal Corps Regimental Associations Silver Order of
Mercury. The Signal Regiment inducted him as a Distinguished Member in 1990.
